On December 31 Gov. Quinn signed into law the rewrite of the Illinois Real Estate License Act of 2000. The section of the bill pertaining to licensure took effect December 31, 2009. The key provisions of the licensure changes are the Illinois license categories from "Salesperson" to "Broker" and from "Broker" to "Managing Broker".
Here is the timeline for the licensure changes per the Illinois Association of Realtors website:
• Salespersons as of April 30, 2011 have until April 30, 2012 to either pass a proficiency examination given by a course provider OR take 30 hours of education and pass an exam. NO new "Salesperson" licenses will be issued by the State after April 30, 2011.
• Existing brokers who do not choose to act as a managing broker have no transitional requirements, but will need to complete their 12 hours of continuing education and the broker management continuing for the April 30, 2010 renewal.
• Continuing Education requirement updates, per the new license law changes, are outlined in this education fact sheet developed by the IAR for your convenience. Click the IAR Education Matrix to learn more about the licensure transition and CE requirements needed for license renewal.
The requirements related to these changes will be implemented over the next two years (through April 30, 2012) giving Illinois licensees plenty of time to make the transition - the education courses and proficiency exams will be available until after April 30, 2011.
NOTE: Baird & Warner will be a provider of the transitional course material and proficiency exams.
